In the past, family unity seemed to matter more than it does now. Outdoor games used to have more popularity than they do today. More people seem to be spectators instead of actual players. Backyard games let people spend time actually talking to one another, instead of distracted by video games and computers. Not that there are anything wrong with video games or computers, but only that other activities should be engaged in as well. This allows families to spend time together in the outdoors.

One of the most enjoyable and simplest of backyard games is badminton. This is played with rackets. Tennis rackets are very similar to these but not exactly the same. A net is erected and players volley back and forth with a plastic object called a shuttlecock. Sometimes this shuttlecock is also called a birdie. Some people play the game for fun only, although many do keep score. Scores do not have to be kept, as many people play only for enjoyment. These kinds of games strengthen family unity and bring individuals closer to one another. The fast pace of todays world doesnt let this happen very often. Time spent with family and friends is valuable.

Grandparents often play games like this with their grandchildren. There is nothing strenuous about the game that would stop either the very old or the very young from playing. Everyone in the middle can enjoy it as well. A lot of people have forgotten the fun of these games. The goal of these kinds of games is to bring families and friends together.
